You do not have to agree with the province, but the 37 St route best supports the function of a ring road, impacts less communities and costs a lot less than the other alternatives. The province admits that it has a greater potential of environmental impact and is the least favorable concerning proximity to drinking water intake, but I did not hear a big uproar when the preferred route was 1/2 mile to the west and crossed the Elbow River on Tsuu T’ina land. I feel sorry for anyone that is affected by the cost of growth and expansion but the SW Ring Road has to be completed. Studies will continue with the final decision to be made by the end of the year and a completion date somewhere between 2013 and 2015.
As for Discovery Ridge it is quite evident that we will have an 8 lane Deerfoot Trail type road replacing Highway 8 from Glenmore Trail to approximately 101 Street and overpasses at 69 Street and the curve in the SW ring road as it heads north just west of the Slopes community. What I did not know is that the stretch of road from the Trans Canada highway south to Highway 8 is the last piece of the puzzle? It is slated to be completed last although talking to a representative from the province there have been a lot of discussions to finish it earlier than the controversial stretch of the ring road.
Did you go to the open house? Feel free to comment on the post. Do you think it has an adverse effect on Discovery, what are your thoughts on the controversy over the Lakeview route? What route do you prefer?
Discovery Ridge in the Fall
By · CommentsIt is hard to believe this was only two months ago. There is nothing like Fall in Discovery Ridge !

Griffith Woods
By · CommentsLand donated by the Griffith family, this natural wilderness area borders on to the Wedgewoods with the Elbow River flowing gently towards the Glenmore Reservoir. Photos taken in 2009 by my talented brother known on Flickr as RonaldoK. Hard to believe this is less than 5 minutes walking distance from the Wedgewoods

West LRT Animation Video
